California Adventure Bear Mountain - Anaheim, CA
The Grizzly River Run bear mountain rockwork as well as all of the area rock features along the flume pathway were designed by Patrell Engineering in 1999 and 2000. Our engineers have been designing large theme park rockwork for many years. Design work in those days was done with very simplistic structural programs and a calculator. 3-D modeling was only a dream that was years away at that time. Site inspections to verify complete structural framing in all directions were necessary and provided extensive field experience that has been valuable in the following years.
Grizzly River Run – Bear Mountain: Finished rockwork
Bear Mountain Under Construction: Lower level Primary Steel (was by others). Patrell design was all secondary framing to support the shaped “chips” that form the contours of the rock shaped mountain. Many various connection conditions were designed and detailed.
Baloo the Bear: Ride Entry Statue: Patrell designed the steel support frame and secondary framing that provides structural resistance for seismic and wind loads.
