World of Pandora - Disney’s Animal Kingdom - Orlando, FL
This massive project took over a year of engineering design and coordination to bring to life the rockwork mountains, shards, arches, floating rocks, webs of themed vines and faux plants, bushes and trees . The scope of Patrell’s work is outlined in the captions for each image.
Featured in this image is the soring rockwork mountain that begins at grade and terminates on the roof of the ride building. Also seen are cantilever rock broken rock shards and one of the rock arches.
The complex web of various sizes of faux vines are shown here. Vines were all located in a 3-D computer model to define quantities, diameters and spans. Vine spans varied from 20 feet to up to 60 feet in length.
Ride building rockwork is shown. Also shown are themed foliage and roots on the rockwork: attachments were designed.
Steel framing supports the massive themed roots that add to the awe-inspiring journey through the Valley of Mo’ara.
Another view of all of the vines. Also shown is a Patrell design for the smaller floating rock shown upper right. The 3 pieces of the floating rockwork that is in front of the main rock mountain was designed by others.
Foreground shows various sizes of vines. Background shows Patrell rockwork mountain with arches and shards.
